Literary and art workshops

The Žumberak region is rich with people who have left a mark in the Croatian cultural heritage. Such as: academics Tadija Smičiklas, Croatian historian, Petar Skok and Milko Popović, linguists, Milan Herak, geologist.
From Žumberak came a mayor of Zagreb, pl. Nikola Badovinac. Recently, German historians discovered Žumberak as a birthplace of the medieval knight Janko Šajatovića Krabat (Croat), well known man in central Europe of 17th century. Because of his military merits and rescuing of the king August The Great, he got a land property in Germany. He developed these farmlands economically in such way that they are still successful and sustainable in German tourist region Krabat, called in honor to him.

Literary and art workshops in our household

We have a secession-style arranged workroom for seminars, social games and artistic expressing competitions. The hostel manager,script writer and novelist organizes workshops organizes literary, music, acting, painting and other competitions with tourist groups staying with us.
Best Interpreters receive a special reward, Valentin's water of love, connected with the well that great-grandfather Valentin specially mantained. Literature lovers will be particularly pleased. The tutor will introduce them to the works of the Žumberak authors of novels, stories, travelogues and songs.

Our Jurkovo selo is 58 km away from Zagreb. You are coming to us by road through the Valley of Cardinals, named after the Cardinals Alojzije Stepinac and Franjo Kuharić.
